A still mass

That moves with constancy

A paradox in all its ways

An exemplary Mother

Of the Universe

Whom very few can understand

As they try to mar

In their destructive ways

But her beauty lies within

Regenerated by the seasons

She is blamed

For things they do

Which cause famine

And pestilence too

In their depletion of her rich resources

Mismanagement of land, forest and oceans

She reacts in powerful ways

More profound than our thoughts

By becoming hostile and uninhabitable

In areas once profitable

This Earth will always be our Mother

Who conceives us

And holds us in Sleep

Always protective of her charge

Even though wayward

They sometimes are

She never falters in her care

Our source of sustenance

A bosom of warmth

And home of stability

To the lost and weary soul

A potent question of Earth to Man

That should be heeded in every land

Why are my people refugees

When I have pledged my security
